In my AICE Media Studies Class, we began the Music Marketing project. It consists of creating and marketing a music brand, with the addition of making a music video as well. On the surface, it seems like a fairly easy assignment. However, it varies from person to person, especially with the presentation aspect. As someone who is faced with a lot of anxiety, I know the presentation will be the most difficult portion of the project, and the music video too.
Speaking of the music video, it was hard to come with ideas for our song. Our genre was R&B, of which we got the song "C'mon Talk" by Jarle Bernhoft. I had never heard of this singer before. I only know a few popular R&B artists, such as SZA and The Weeknd, so the song options we received were all unfamiliar. However, the Bernhoft song stood out to us the most. We had an idea to make a promotional music video at a shopping plaza near our school, as it was an interesting location compared to a park or neighborhood.
But before we could even get to this point, our focus was on research, with one part especially for the Media Context essay. We looked into two music labels, RCA and Columbia, who have some of the biggest names in music right now under them. This portion of the project was very helpful. I was able to learn more of the R&B genre with its audience and marketing. It was not as simple as I thought.
